Three generations, 137 years, one Connecticut steel service center — plus a tool steel division built over six decades and brought under the same roof in 2019.
The Chapin & Bangs Company was founded in 1888 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and has been a wholesale steel distributor in the Northeast ever since. We treat our customers, suppliers, and employees the way we'd want to be treated — and the proof is in the tenure: our employees average 19.7 years of service.
Today our Bridgeport facility runs 150,000 square feet under one roof, three shifts a day, with eight large bays, custom racking, and full overhead crane coverage. Sales offices sit attached to the production floor — when a customer asks for an update, the rep can walk to the order.
In September 2019, we officially merged with Lindquist Steels, founded in 1944. Lindquist now operates as our Tool Steel & Specialty Materials Division, bringing 60+ years of expertise in cold-work, hot-work, high-speed, plastic-mold, and powdered-metal steels under the same roof — and the same ISO 9001:2015 scope.
Customer relationships measured in decades. Employee tenure measured in decades. A 137-year track record we don't want to spoil.
We sell to engineers and tool & die makers who already speak AISI grade names. Our catalog is a reference book, our reps are technical, our certs are real.
Bar-coded inventory, GPS-tracked trucks, JIT and special-stocking programs. The Northeast's steel buyers shouldn't have to wonder where the order is.
Our certified scope reads "distribution and processing of carbon, alloy, stainless steel and tool steel" — covering both Chapin & Bangs service-center work and Lindquist tool-steel inventory. One quality system, audited under one cert, applied to every PO.
